Family Mourns Loss of Honours Commerce Scholar After Fatal Building Collapse

The sudden collapse of a residential building in Katni’s Satyaniketan area on September 7 resulted in the death of 19‑year‑old Axhat Yadav, a promising honours commerce student at Delhi University. Yadav, who was pursuing a B.Com (Honours), was among the residents crushed by the falling structure.

Born and raised in Katni, Yadav completed his higher secondary education at DPS before earning a seat at Delhi University through the CUET entrance test. He had been staying in Delhi for the past one and a half years, balancing college lectures with preparation for various competitive exams.

Friends reported that Yadav had visited his family home for Raksha Bandhan, after which he returned to Delhi to continue his studies. The building’s collapse was first reported at about 7 p.m., triggering frantic rescue attempts.

Yadav’s mother, together with councilor Dabbu Rajab, departed for Delhi that same night, while his father, who was in Rajasthan, arrived shortly thereafter. Medical personnel at the Delhi Trauma Centre identified the body using distinctive marks on his feet and his personal T‑shirt.

According to close friend Krishna Rajat, misinformation spread throughout the night, giving a false impression that Yadav might have survived. Clarification arrived the following morning, confirming the tragic loss. The incident has left his family and peers in profound grief, cutting short a bright future filled with academic and career ambitions.
