Family Feud Turns Deadly: Brother Arrested After Homicide in Ranchi

A bitter rivalry over hereditary land in Ranchi’s Chipra area culminated in a lethal assault on September 15. Bikhuram Uraw succumbed to injuries inflicted by his brother, Jayanath Uraw, who used a shovel as a weapon.

The community discovered the victim sprawled on the ground, drenched in blood, and quickly relayed the incident to the Ratu police. Responding officers cordoned off the area, collected forensic material, and forwarded the deceased to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences for a post‑mortem report.

Police statements reveal that the dispute over family assets had been simmering for years. On the day of the tragedy, an argument escalated, prompting Jayanath to strike his brother with a shovel, leading to instant death.

With the suspect still on the run, law enforcement has launched searches across multiple locations, seeking information from relatives and locals. A formal FIR has been lodged, and legal proceedings are underway.
