Family Dispute Over Dowry Sparks Murder Allegations in Bihar's Navada Case

Patna, August 18 – A tragic incident in Navada, Bihar, has ignited a heated debate over dowry pressures and possible homicide. The victims, Nida Khatoon (30) and her two daughters, Saria (3) and Sitara (4), were found dead on a Monday morning inside their home in the Darzi Mohalla area of Bundelkhand police station.

Investigators report that Nida’s body was discovered hanging from a ceiling hook on the upper floor, while the girls were located on separate beds, each already lifeless. The house had remained locked for an extended period, prompting relatives to force entry and alert the police.

The family of the deceased, originating from Sardi in Gaya district, alleges that the husband’s parents repeatedly harassed Nida over dowry demands, eventually leading to a premeditated murder. They have filed a written complaint accusing unknown individuals and specifically requesting a probe into the in‑law’s involvement.

Police have opened dual investigative tracks, treating the case as both a potential murder and a suicide. They have collected forensic samples, recorded statements from the husband’s family, and sent the bodies for post‑mortem analysis. The husband, Mohammad Sajid, works in Dubai and was informed of the tragedy after it occurred.

The investigation continues, with forensic experts awaiting the autopsy report to determine whether the hanging was a genuine suicide or a staged act following a homicide.
