Family Dispute Alleged as Trigger in Jharkhand Mother‑Son Fatal Fire

Investigators in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, are examining a possible family conflict that may have led to a fatal fire involving a mother and her ten‑month‑old son. The 23‑year‑old mother, Sahana Khatun, allegedly set herself on fire while clutching her infant, Faijan, before falling from a rooftop.

The incident occurred in the Buli OP locality of Azad Nagar. Bystanders rescued the pair and rushed them to Asharfi Hospital, where they later died from severe burns. Police have confirmed the deaths and are reviewing CCTV footage to piece together the sequence of events.

According to the victim's father, Mohammad Gulam Rasool, the couple had been subjected to continuous harassment by the husband's family since their marriage. He claims a heated argument took place a day before the tragedy, suggesting a motive rooted in domestic abuse.

Rasool demands a comprehensive, unbiased probe and the release of all surveillance material from the area. The husband, Shahnavaz Ansari, known as Raja, denies any involvement, asserting he was away at the market when the fire broke out.

Following the father's formal complaint, law enforcement has lodged a murder case against the husband, the mother‑in‑law, and the father‑in‑law. The husband and the father‑in‑law have been arrested as the investigation proceeds.
