Family Accuses Constable's Husband of Financial Pressure and Abuse

Lucknow, Aug 10 – The family of slain constable Priyanka has publicly accused her husband, Rajat Kumar, of subjecting her to severe financial strain and continuous abuse. According to statements made by her brother Saurabh, the couple met on Instagram, fell in love and married three years ago. Soon after the wedding, disputes began, with Rajat allegedly intimidating Priyanka and even disabling her social‑media accounts.

The father, Nathiram, claimed that Rajat had already taken a loan of five lakh rupees and was demanding another five lakh from Priyanka. He further alleged that the bride’s family was forced to provide a Boleiro car, a bike and cash amounting to two lakh rupees, in addition to selling two bighas of land to cover wedding expenses.

Saurabh added that Rajat repeatedly beat Priyanka, forcing her to spend eight months at her parental home. The cumulative effect of physical assault, mental torment and relentless monetary demands, the family says, drove Priyanka to ingest poison.

A formal FIR has been filed at the Civil Line police station, charging the husband with dowry harassment, assault and illegal loan procurement. The authorities have registered the case and are proceeding with legal action.
