Falta Bypoll: Modi-Adhikari Factor Delivers for BJP

Kolkata, May 24: The counting trends emerging from the Falta bypoll have delivered a clear message: the Trinamool Congress’s once-unassailable Diamond Harbour fortress is showing visible cracks. After 19 rounds, BJP’s Debangshu Panda holds a commanding lead with 1,37,473 votes, while TMC’s Jahangir Khan languishes in fourth place with only 5,914 votes. The scale of the turnaround is striking when compared to the 2021 assembly election, when TMC candidate Shankar Kumar Naskar secured victory by a margin of 41,000 votes. BJP leaders attribute the surge to the combined appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda and the organizational muscle of Suvendu Adhikari. Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari highlighted the rejection of “bhateeje” politics, noting that voters had chosen a fresh alternative. The 21 May bypoll was conducted under stringent security arrangements following the withdrawal of the original TMC nominee, which further eased BJP’s path. Supporters across the constituency have been celebrating since early morning, waving party flags and raising slogans. The outcome, if confirmed after the remaining rounds, is expected to reshape the political narrative ahead of future elections in West Bengal.
