Fake Police ID Scam: Arrest Made After Traffic Personnel Confront Man
An incident in Dum Dum, West Bengal, has led to the arrest of a man who allegedly used a fake police identity card generated through artificial intelligence. He is accused of threatening and harassing traffic personnel while claiming to be a police officer. Police shared the information on Saturday.
The man is said to have presented the fake card in an attempt to establish his authority and pressure on-duty traffic staff. Doubts about his claims ultimately resulted in his arrest.
The matter came to light late Friday night near the zero point of the Belgharia Expressway in the Dum Dum area of North 24 Parganas district. Police said the accused approached traffic personnel working under the Nimta Traffic Guard and requested a vehicle to return home. Claiming to be a police officer, he attempted to get his request accepted by pressuring the staff.
The accused reportedly continued to threaten and abuse the personnel on duty. Suspicious of his claims, the staff asked him to show his identity card for verification.
The scanning of the card confirmed that it was not genuine. During interrogation, the accused acknowledged that he had prepared the identity card using artificial intelligence. Officers from Dum Dum police station then took him into custody.
The accused was produced in a Barrackpore court on Saturday. Investigators are now trying to determine how the fake card was created and whether he had used it earlier to influence people or extort money.
A senior officer from the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate office said the accused was arrested for allegedly using a fake police identity card and trying to exert influence. Police will seek his custody to conduct further questioning. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the investigation is in progress.
Police are also checking whether the man created the fake card on his own or had support from others.
