Fadnavis Tightens Grip on Fuel Supply Amid Hoarding Fears

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Tuesday that Maharashtra has ramped up petrol distribution by 23 percent and diesel supply by 52 percent to counter an unexpected jump in consumption. The surge, which far exceeds typical seasonal patterns, has raised concerns about possible hoarding in several regions. Akola district alone reported a 154 percent increase, while six other districts including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Beed logged up to 70 percent growth. The Food and Civil Supplies Department along with the Home Department are now jointly overseeing supply chains to ensure retail outlets receive adequate stocks. Authorities are examining differences between commercial and retail fuel flows to confirm that agricultural and consumer needs are being met. Public sector oil marketing companies have guaranteed sufficient reserves at every petrol pump and storage facility in the state. Meanwhile, regular checks and replenishment drives continue to prevent shortages. On the onion front, Fadnavis dismissed opposition claims as political posturing and announced that the Centre will convene a meeting on Wednesday to review enhanced procurement support, now raised to around 15 rupees per kilogram, along with broader strategies to protect farmers.
