Export taxes on fuel products increased as global crude prices fluctuate
The Ministry of Finance issued a fresh order on August 3, adjusting export levies on three major fuel categories. The changes come as crude oil prices continue to oscillate and geopolitical tensions add uncertainty to the energy landscape.
Under the new schedule, petrol export duty climbs to ₹3.5 per litre, diesel to ₹25.5 per litre, and aviation turbine fuel to ₹22 per litre. These figures replace the earlier rates of ₹2.5, ₹15.5 and ₹14.5 respectively.
The decision is part of a broader strategy to safeguard domestic fuel supplies while responding to international market dynamics. Earlier in July, the government had increased diesel and ATF taxes after a period of rising global oil prices, while providing a modest cut in petrol export duty to maintain market equilibrium.
