Exam Scandals and Tribal Youth: Minister Calls for Immediate Action

In a press briefing in Giridih, Union Minister Annupurna Devi pointed to a series of controversies surrounding Jharkhand’s competitive examinations as a catalyst for the ongoing student unrest. She claimed that allegations of seat‑selling and the exclusion of qualified candidates have eroded confidence in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

Devi stressed that tribal students, who form a significant portion of the protestors, are particularly vulnerable when merit‑based opportunities are compromised. She demanded that the state launch a rigorous, independent inquiry into the claims and prosecute any officials found guilty.

The minister also reminded officials that many tribal families send their children to larger towns for schooling, often sacrificing essential household needs. Any further denial of fair examination chances would amount to an additional injustice against these communities.

Highlighting the state’s twenty‑four‑year trajectory, Devi argued that Jharkhand’s promised progress remains uneven, especially in tribal‑dominant districts. She called on the Hemant Soren government to present a concrete development plan that addresses education, employment and infrastructure gaps for the youth.

The minister concluded by reaffirming the federal commitment to safeguarding children’s futures, urging the state to act swiftly and transparently.
