Eta Road Tragedy: Canter Collision with Disabled Bus Claims Four Lives
A fatal collision on a rural stretch of Eta, Uttar Pradesh, turned a routine bus repair into a disaster on July 3. A Roadways bus traveling from Faridabad to Delhi experienced a breakdown and was parked on the side of the road for repairs. While mechanics worked on the vehicle, a fast‑moving canter barreled into its rear, causing a massive impact.
The crash triggered screams and immediate emergency calls. Police and ambulance teams reached the site quickly, evacuating injured passengers to the nearest medical facility. Doctors later confirmed that four of the passengers had succumbed to their injuries. High‑ranking officials, including the city SP, the senior divisional magistrate, and other senior police officers, visited the hospital to monitor the situation.
The district magistrate noted that most passengers were standing outside the bus at the time of the crash, with a handful still inside. Simultaneously, a truck approached from the opposite direction, and the canter, unable to stop in time, struck the truck from behind. While those inside the bus escaped with relatively minor wounds, many of the standing passengers suffered serious injuries.
In total, eleven individuals were injured; one remains in critical condition. Medical treatment continues for all victims. Authorities have opened a formal investigation to uncover the exact sequence of events and to determine liability for the tragedy.
