Encounters in Bareilly and Kannauj Lead to Two Arrests
Lucknow, October 28: Police in two Uttar Pradesh districts, Bareilly and Kannauj, have arrested two dangerous criminals after encounters. Both suspects suffered bullet injuries during the exchange of fire and are receiving treatment in hospital. Police have also begun an inquiry into the incidents.
Bareilly police stated that on November 21, Sachin Singh Thakur, a resident of Thera Ki Taal in the Subhash Nagar police station area, fled from police custody inside the court premises during a hearing. The Kotwali police station registered a case over the incident.
Police received a tip-off that Sachin was present near North Colony, in front of the railway station. A Kotwali police team proceeded to the spot. At 3:35 on Wednesday morning, a man was seen coming on foot. When the team signalled him to stop, he ran and began firing at the police. One bullet brushed past the right arm of Head Constable Rawab Miyan.
Police fired back in self-defence. Sachin was hit in the right leg, which left him injured, and he was taken into custody at the spot. A country-made pistol and four cartridges were seized from him. Both Sachin and the injured head constable were admitted to the district hospital. A reward of 25,000 rupees is declared on Sachin Singh Thakur, and he is facing eight cases registered earlier.
In Kannauj, police arrested a man after an encounter for setting fire to a woman. Sarvesh set petrol alight on 65-year-old Sontara from Tigudia village. He was enraged after Sontara's son's wife went away with another man, and he tried to kill Sontara.
Early Wednesday, police were searching for Sarvesh through raids. During this search, the SOG surrounded a spot near the Talgram Road culvert in Chhibramau. Sarvesh opened fire, and in the counter-firing he was struck in the leg. He has been admitted to hospital.
