Encounter in Shravasti: Police wound officer, seize weaponry

In a dramatic confrontation on September 7, police forces in Shravasti district cornered two high‑profile criminals near Anta Tiraha. The suspects, each listed with a bounty of fifty thousand rupees, opened fire, delivering six rounds at the law‑enforcement team. Responding officers returned fire, hitting Girish Bahelia in the leg, while Shiv Kumar Jaiswal surrendered. An Assistant Sub‑Inspector was seriously injured during the exchange. Seizures from the site included two unlicensed firearms, multiple cartridges, cash, a motorcycle and additional illegal items. Bahelia has more than thirty criminal cases pending; Jaiswal faces over twenty‑three. Both are alleged to be involved in robbery, dacoity, illegal arms trafficking and narcotics offenses.
