Electric pink autos to boost income for women and transgenders in Delhi

The Durga (Driving, Up‑Liftment and Employment for Women/Transgender e‑Auto) scheme, launched by CM Rekha Gupta, will empower 1,300 women and transgender citizens to become owners and drivers of electric pink auto‑rickshaws. The project seeks to create dignified self‑employment while promoting environmentally friendly transport.

Each revenue district will receive a capped allocation – a maximum of 90 autos for women and 10 for transgender applicants – ensuring equitable geographical distribution. The transparent digital portal will collect applications, and any surplus over the quota will be allocated through a randomised online draw.

Eligibility criteria include Delhi domicile, age between 20 and 40 years, a valid L‑M‑V licence, a PSV badge and an annual household income not exceeding five lakh rupees. The scheme also mandates a limit of three living children per applicant family.

The administration has requested dedicated parking and charging stations at metro hubs and NCTC locations, and will work with ride‑hailing platforms to provide six‑month free onboarding for new drivers. Anticipated spill‑over benefits include increased demand for auto‑repair workshops, battery recycling units and related service jobs.
