Election officials aim to add first‑time voters, women and PWDs in upcoming drive

In a bid to broaden voter participation, the Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission will conduct an intensive two‑day enrolment campaign on 10 and 11 October. Chief Electoral Officer Sanjeev Verma highlighted that the focus will be on first‑time voters, women and persons with disabilities, groups that often face barriers to registration.

The weekend drive will see Booth Level Officers stationed at each polling station to assist with the physical filing of Forms 6, 7 and 8, as well as to guide applicants through the digital submission process on the Voter Helpline mobile application. Both methods aim to simplify the entry, deletion and correction of voter details.

A post‑meeting directive instructed District Electoral Officers and Electoral Registration Officers to intensify grassroots communication, using institutional networks, public meetings and the commission’s official social‑media handles. The intent is to spread the message widely and ensure maximum reach.

Officials have also been tasked with conducting house‑to‑house verification in areas where eligible citizens may have been missed, giving special attention to youth and other vulnerable sections. The CEO reiterated that a complete and precise electoral roll is essential for a healthy democracy and called upon citizens to actively participate.
