Election Commission’s FIR Dispute Draws Criticism from AIMIM Leader

AIMIM’s Waris Pathan has taken aim at the Election Commission over a contentious FIR that has sparked alleged disagreements among its commissioners. He insisted that any objections recorded at the commission level must be clarified before the public, emphasizing that the right to vote is guaranteed by the constitution, not a privilege.

Pathan warned that if names are arbitrarily removed from voter lists or voting rights are curtailed without due procedure, it would constitute a serious breach of democratic norms. He clarified that his own objective is not to disenfranchise legitimate voters, but to ensure that the FIR issue is answered transparently by both the government and the Election Commission.

The spokesperson also referenced ongoing legal battles concerning the Muslim Personal Law Board and a Supreme Court petition seeking equal inheritance rights for Muslim women. While he has not yet reviewed the petition, he said he intends to study its points before offering an opinion.

In a broader cultural note, Pathan reminded listeners that Islam holds mothers in the highest regard, describing heaven as being situated beneath a mother’s feet, thereby underscoring the deep reverence afforded to women and mothers within the faith.
