Election Commission to decide new Trinamool identifiers before Oct 6 polls

With the by‑elections in Nandigram and Rajarhat‑Gopalpur looming, the Election Commission is set to finalize the fresh party names and logos for the two Trinamool factions. The deadline for filing was 11 a.m. on Friday, and both groups complied, though they kept the details under wraps.

The commission maintains a catalogue of 184 free symbols, ranging from everyday objects like a kettle, a telescope, or a biscuit, to more distinctive items such as a bell pepper or a battery torch. Two of these will be allocated – one to each splinter group – after a careful review of the submitted alternatives. The decision will be communicated before the October 6 voting day, ensuring that voters know exactly which banner each candidate represents.
