Election Commission Allocates Separate Free Symbols to Rival TMC Splits

In its latest interim order, the Election Commission has directed that the two competing Trinamool Congress factions receive different free symbols for use in upcoming polls. The flower‑grass symbol, long associated with the AITMC, is now barred for both sides.

The commission’s list of free symbols includes a variety of icons such as a lantern, a kite, and a palm leaf. Each faction will be assigned one of these after they submit their preferences along with a new party name.

The move is intended to prevent voter confusion and maintain the integrity of the electoral process. Both factions are expected to comply before the September 18 deadline, after which the commission will finalize the symbol allocation.
