Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam: NDMC Leads Plantation Drive in Lodhi Colony
New Delhi, October 25: A tree plantation programme led by NDMC Vice-Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal was held in Lodhi Colony on Sunday. The drive was part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' environmental campaign and marked its 46th consecutive weekend.
Local residents of the C-3 Type-II flats for central government employees, numbered 224 to 209, took part in planting saplings alongside Chahal. Participants included Rajendra Kothari, Manoj Dhyani, Narendra Bisht, Sanjay Negi, D.S. Bisht, Sonu Kumar, Ruchi Joshi, Rajni, Poonam Lata and other residents and women of the colony. RWA representatives and community members also contributed actively.
Chahal said residents were motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign. Each family planted a tree in the name of their mother and promised to look after it until it matured.
He said the campaign's sustained run over 46 Sundays demonstrates growing public involvement and awareness about conservation. Planting, he stressed, is only the first step. Regular maintenance, timely watering and proper safeguarding are equally necessary.
He asked residents to take ownership of the saplings they had planted and to nurture them until they grow into full trees. Chahal described the act of planting a tree in a mother's name as an expression of love and respect, and a meaningful message for a greener future.
During the programme, Chahal listened to residents' grievances and instructed officials to act. Problems raised included sewerage, waterlogging, tree pruning, encroachment and footpath reconstruction. Relevant NDMC teams have been directed to inspect these issues and carry out suitable action.
Chahal underlined that effective civic governance depends on prompt resolution of local problems and stronger coordination between departments. He said regular dialogue with residents helps identify ground realities and supports timely solutions.
According to him, the campaign is no longer confined to tree plantation. It is also motivating citizens to care for parks, residential colonies and green spaces in their neighbourhoods. NDMC, he added, is committed to increasing green cover and protecting planted trees so they can thrive.
He said every sapling planted and nurtured today could become a valuable green heritage for future generations. He invited residents to join hands with NDMC to make New Delhi cleaner, greener and more beautiful.
Officials from the NDMC's civil, electrical, health and horticulture departments, RWA office-bearers and local residents were present at the event.
