Eight-Week Yoga Course Prepares Agniveers for Civilian Life
Sri Vijayapuram, October 25: Agniveers nearing the end of their service have completed a special yoga course designed to support their physical and mental health. The programme, called a Yoga Capsule, was organised by the Naval component of the Andaman and Nicobar Command in Sri Vijayapuram.
According to a social media post from the Command, the course emphasised physical fitness, mental wellbeing and mindfulness. Its core purpose was to help retiring Agniveers transition into civilian life with health, balance and confidence.
The eight-week training was conducted under the National Ayush Mission (NAM). It was carried out with support from the Ayush Wing, the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) and the Andaman and Nicobar State Ayush Society.
The Command also highlighted a recent tour by Vice Admiral Vineet Mccarty, its Commander-in-Chief. He visited remote locations in the Andaman islands, including Landfall Island, East Island and INS Kohassa, to review preparedness and capability-building efforts.
During the visit, he assessed military readiness, reviewed initiatives aimed at enhancing capacity and examined logistics arrangements. He also met personnel serving in tough conditions and recognised their high standards of professionalism, duty and dedication.
In addition, the Command held a conference to discuss the expanding strategic importance of the Andaman and Nicobar islands and the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). Under its Silver Jubilee celebrations, a Strategic Leaders Conclave brought together former Commanders-in-Chief and senior officers.
The event reviewed the Command's 25-year history, major achievements and important lessons. Participants discussed the islands' strategic role, the Indian Ocean Region's importance, emerging maritime challenges and the Command's role in advancing India's interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
The conclave also deliberated on the Command's strategy, future plans and priorities for the next 25 years. It reaffirmed the commitment to position the Andaman and Nicobar Command as a key centre of India's strategic frontier and maritime power.
