Eight Fire Tenders Battle Blaze at Kolkata's South City Tower

Eight fire tenders have been deployed to control a fire that broke out on the 28th floor of the South City Complex in Kolkata on Friday. Officials said the situation is largely under control, and no injuries or deaths have been reported.

The incident took place in a flat in Tower 3 of the South City Residential Complex in south Kolkata. The building is a major housing complex situated near the South City Mall, and the fire created a stir among its residents.

According to a fire department official, the incident was brought to their notice at about 8 am. Multiple fire engines were sent to the site without delay, and additional vehicles were later called in to completely extinguish the fire.

Local eyewitnesses reported seeing thick black smoke coming out of the affected flat. The smoke spread fear among people living in the complex, leading to panic in some areas.

Before the fire brigade reached the spot, security staff and local residents tried to control the blaze on their own. Firefighters then took over and carried out a large-scale operation to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby flats and surrounding areas.

The official said that eight fire tenders are still involved in the operation. Although the fire has been largely contained, the team is making sure that no small patches of fire remain. The official noted that a re-ignition is highly unlikely, but some work is still pending.

Officials have stated that no casualties have occurred so far. They added that all residents have been evacuated safely and that there is no one trapped in the building.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be identified, and an assessment of the financial loss has not been made. The investigation into the cause will be carried out after the firefighting process is entirely over.

Police officers, fire department personnel and electricity department representatives are present at the location.
