Education Ministers Highlight Role of Books Over Digital Screens

Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay described books as the written embodiment of human experience, knowledge and thought. Citing the legacy of scholar Pandit Ramchandra Shukla, he asserted that books serve not only as reading material but also as mentors, companions and advisors that shape language, literature, culture and tradition.

Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh warned that the digital era has diluted the younger generation’s connection with books. He urged students to turn to printed pages, noting that while screens merely display the world, books empower readers to interpret and understand it. Singh highlighted state initiatives such as the "Screen to Page Celebration" in Lucknow and Prayagraj, designed to bring children back to literature.

Secondary Education Minister Gulab Devi added that under Chief Minister Yogi’s guidance, education is being expanded beyond classrooms. Libraries are being upgraded with modern IT infrastructure, digital tools and ergonomic furniture. Under Project Alankaar, 2,107 government and 591 aided secondary schools have undergone structural renewal, while ICT labs have been installed in 1,841 schools and smart classrooms in 1,236.
