Editorial: Power Change is a Democratic Norm, Shiv Sena (UBT) Asserts
Mumbai, October 19 – The Shiv Sena (UBT) reiterated on Monday that the replacement of a ruling party is a fundamental democratic process mandated by the Constitution. In its Samna editorial, the party claimed that the existing administration has filled its “cup of sins,” prompting citizens to reject any policy that opposes the Indian flag.
By stating that a government hostile to the tricolor must be ousted, Samna positioned the public’s demand for a new regime as both inevitable and justified. The editorial dismissed any advantage of taking false oaths under the guise of constitutional fidelity, labeling it ineffective in the current climate.
Reference was made to past political upheavals in India – from coalition breakdowns to the emergency’s civil unrest – as well as to worldwide examples where power changed hands through non‑violent movements. The narrative suggested that when the opposition calls for the removal of a government it deems unlawfully installed, it is exercising a legitimate democratic right.
The article also cited foreign interventions, such as the United States’ repeated statements about regime change in Iran, to illustrate that the aspiration for political turnover transcends borders and remains a core attribute of active democracies.
