ED and State Police Simultaneously Target TMC Funds, Party Seeks Relief

The enforcement drive intensified early this month when the ED, investigating alleged money‑laundering, also moved to freeze the three accounts holding ₹440 crore. This was in addition to the state police’s earlier directive that barred any debit transactions from the same accounts. The overlapping restrictions have left the TMC alleging a coordinated effort to starve the party of its cash flow.

In response, the party filed another petition before Justice Krishna Rao’s single‑judge bench, requesting the court to quash the ED’s freeze. The hearing is scheduled for 13 July, and the TMC has signalled it will argue that the ED’s action lacks sufficient evidentiary basis and infringes on democratic political activity.
