Economic Reservation Demand Highlighted by Passwan Amid BJP’s 10% Scheme

Patna, August 31 – In a press interaction, Union Minister Chirag Paswan spoke about the ongoing reservation debate in Bihar and underscored the growing demand for economic‑based quotas. While acknowledging the central government's introduction of a 10 percent reservation for economically weaker sections, Paswan said the issue remains sensitive for many communities.

"The concerns of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBCs and even upper‑caste groups need to be addressed through transparent discussion," Paswan said. He insisted that dialogue is the only way to reconcile competing interests and warned that taking away the benefits of any segment will not resolve the larger problem.

Paswan pointed out that the call for economic reservation is not limited to a single class. "People from higher castes are also seeking a share based on economic criteria. The government must evaluate these demands without compromising the safeguards already in place for historically marginalized groups," he explained.

Reaffirming his party's commitment, Paswan said he will continue to champion the protection of SC/ST rights, the upliftment of OBCs, and the legitimate expectations of economically stronger sections. He linked this approach to the central theme of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas," emphasizing unity over division.

Addressing a separate controversy involving a Bihar minister and an LJP legislator, Paswan said the party will not provide a cover‑up. The party has asked the accused leader for a response and has lodged a defamation complaint against the accuser. Paswan demanded a fair inquiry, stating that any party member found guilty will be removed from office and expelled from the party, with the full force of the law applied.
