Economic Offences Unit Arrests Repeat Offender Over ₹2.1 Lakh Job Fraud

The Economic Offences Unit (EOW) of the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch has taken legal action against a habitual fraudster for a multi‑crore job scam.

Police investigations uncovered that Abdul Majid Mir, leveraging a fabricated appointment letter purportedly issued by the Airport Authority of India, duped victims out of ₹2.10 lakh while promising secure government employment. Further probing linked him to a second fraud where he presented himself as a duty officer associated with the Lieutenant Governor, offering nonexistent jobs and land parcels in the SDA Colony, Bemina, extracting close to ₹60 lakh from gullible applicants.

Both cases have been filed under sections 318(4), 336(3), 340(2) and 238 of the Indian Penal Code. Authorities highlighted that Mir is already involved in 15 separate criminal proceedings across the region and appealed to citizens to report any suspicious financial propositions directly to the senior officials of the EOW in Srinagar.
