Economic Offence Wing Uncovers ₹15 Lakh Fraud Involving Fake Agro Food Company
Srinagar – The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch announced on July 30 that it has filed a charge sheet for a ₹15 lakh fraud case linked to a fabricated agro‑food enterprise. The accused – Mohammad Amin Bhat, Khalid Hussain Khan, Anil Kumar Maheshwari and Meerut‑based Shashank Kumar – face charges under sections 420 and 120‑B of the Indian Penal Code.
The investigation traced the crime to a promise of supplying mustard oil. Bhat secured a security deposit of ₹15 lakh from the victim, while Khan posed as an area sales manager and Maheshwari as the regional sales manager of the alleged M/S Assured Agro Food Industries.
No oil was delivered, and a check with the Rajasthan Registrar of Companies confirmed that the named firm does not exist. The probe further revealed that Shashank Kumar was the mastermind behind the fictitious company.
Having established a conspiracy to cheat, the EOW submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court, where the case will now proceed.
The wing cautioned the public to remain alert to similar economic offenses and encouraged anyone with information to approach the senior police superintendent of EOW Kashmir or email the department directly.
