Economic Gains Estimated at Rs 7 Lakh Crore from Unified Lok Sabha and Assembly Polls
According to the JPC chair, running simultaneous elections could save India up to seven lakh crore rupees annually. Frequent elections strain administrative resources, delay development projects, and cause large numbers of migrant workers to return to their home states, impacting industrial output. By consolidating the electoral calendar, the government expects a reduction in expenditure on security, polling personnel, and logistics, while freeing up funds for infrastructure and social schemes.
The committee’s economic analysis also points to enhanced investor confidence, as a predictable election timetable reduces policy uncertainty. The projected savings could be redirected towards health, education, and rural development, thereby accelerating the nation’s growth trajectory.
