Election Commission Adjusts SIR Timelines for Haryana and Andhra Pradesh, Final List Set for Oct 3
The Election Commission of India has revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in both Haryana and Andhra Pradesh. While the qualifying date for the SIR remains July 1 for the two states, the draft voter list will now be published on July 31, a shift from the earlier timetable.
The final publication of the revised electoral rolls has been fixed for October 3, giving the authorities a clear deadline to complete all verification, claim and objection processes. Voter claims and objections can be lodged between July 31 and August 30, with the resolution phase running from July 31 through September 28.
Chief Electoral Officer A. Srinivas of Haryana confirmed that the state has formally requested the extension to ensure no eligible voter is left out. He added that the Election Commission’s new timeline aligns with the need for thorough ground‑level verification, especially in districts where a large number of enumeration forms remain unsubmitted.
Both states will continue to categorise voters under the ASD (Absent, Shifted, Deceased, Duplicate) bracket, which currently covers about 16.28 percent of Haryana’s electorate—approximately 33.6 lakh names that will be omitted from the new draft list.
The revised calendar is intended to provide sufficient time for district officials, electoral registration officers and the public to address any discrepancies before the October 3 final roll is released.
