DVC Action Targets Ritesh Raj Over Influence in TASMAC Operations

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti‑Corruption (DVAC) has issued a lookout circular against Ritesh Raj Shanamugavel, labeling him an "unauthorised power broker" who purportedly swayed crucial administrative and commercial decisions at the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC). According to the FIR, Raj used his relationships to affect liquor brand approvals, bar‑license allocations and the posting of officials within the corporation.

The probe, initiated after reports of large‑scale irregularities between July 2021 and 2025, also points to a broader network of intermediaries and proxy bidders who allegedly rigged tender outcomes. The agency suspects that illicit transactions involving distilleries and suppliers were inflated or fabricated, with a share of the profits funneled back as illegal kick‑backs.

Seven individuals have been named as co‑accused. While former minister V. Senthil Balaji, who previously oversaw the prohibition and excise department, has secured interim bail, all accused continue to deny wrongdoing. DVAC teams have already conducted raids at more than 40 locations across Tamil Nadu, confiscating relevant paperwork and digital files.
