Drug peddlers allegedly brazen in Punjab, says MP after Parvinder Singh Jhotta death
Raghav Chadha, a senior Congress parliamentarian, warned that drug dealers in Punjab have become openly brazen, citing the fatal shooting of anti‑drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta. The MP posted that the crime scene was captured on camera, showing the assailants escaping unscathed.
Chadha argued that the drug market in the state has transformed into a "delivery‑on‑demand" service, where narcotics can be ordered and received within minutes. He likened the ease of purchase to ordering groceries from a nearby shop.
The activist, according to the MP, was involved in a dispute with a medical store owner over alleged drug transactions before he was gunned down. Chadha pointed out that Jhotta had been vocal against the illicit "chitta" trade for several years.
In a striking claim, the MP said the murder is symptomatic of the Bhagwant Mann administration’s inability to enforce law and order. He also accused the current AAP government of allowing the drug network to expand, contrary to its promises during the election campaign.
Chadha added that Jhotta’s father has refused to arrange the last rites until action is taken against the perpetrators, holding the state fully responsible. He called on the central authorities to step in and protect activists fighting the drug menace.
