Drone-Facilitated Heroin Trafficking Ring Busted in Amritsar

A major heroin trafficking operation that relied on drones for cross‑border transport has been broken up by Punjab police. The Amritsar Counter‑Intelligence team acted on a tip about a foreign handler coordinating shipments from Pakistan to the Ajnala sector.

The handler used unmanned aerial vehicles to drop packages of heroin close to the border. Once retrieved, the payload was handed over to Om Sharma, who was responsible for moving the narcotics across Punjab's interior to various local distributors.

Law enforcement executed a raid on a location on Fatehgarh Churian Road, where Sharma was preparing a delivery. The police seized 20 kg of heroin, confiscated his automobile, and placed Sharma in custody.

The case has been formally recorded under the NDPS Act (Sections 21, 25, 29). The DGP emphasized that further investigations will trace the remaining links in the network and assess any connections to previously identified smuggling modules.
