From Dronacharya’s Cave to Modern Pilgrimage: Tapkeswar Temple’s Story

Historical narratives describe Dronacharya, the revered guru of the Kauravas and Pandavas, as having lived in the cave that now shelters the Tapkeswar Mahadev Temple. It is believed that his son, Ashwatthama, was born here and spent six months in intense meditation, eventually receiving a divine weapon and longevity from Shiva. Over time, the original milk flow granted to the child turned into a perpetual water drip, symbolising the temple’s enduring spiritual energy. Today, the site hosts a grand Mahashivratri fair that attracts devotees from across India and abroad.
