Draft Voter List Cuts 21% of Registrants, Removes Duplicates and Deceased

Before the SIR campaign, Maharashtra's registered voter count stood at 9,78,54,049. After thorough field verification, the Election Commission published a draft voter list on August 31 containing 7,71,65,562 names – a reduction of 21.14 per cent. The clean‑up eliminated about 34 lakh dead voters and approximately 17 lakh duplicate entries spread across constituencies such as Mulund, Dharavi, Panvel, Ovala‑Majiwada, and Nagpur East. The final list now comprises 3,95,89,905 male, 3,75,72,570 female and 3,087 transgender voters.
