Draft Delimitation Proposes 209 Wards in KMC, 68 in HMC with High Female Reservation

According to the latest delimitation draft, Kolkata Municipal Corporation will expand its jurisdiction from 144 wards to 209, reserving 70 wards for women—exceeding the statutory 33 percent floor. Howrah Municipal Corporation will follow suit, increasing its wards from 50 to 68 and reserving 23 for female candidates, roughly 34 percent of the total. The draft invites objections or feedback from parties until October 5. Election preparations have already commenced, and the establishment of new municipal boards is expected after the Durga Puja festival, likely in November.
