Drug‑sniffing dog Marco helps RPF catch 22‑kg ganja shipment at Howrah

Howrah railway station became the scene of a major drug interdiction when RPF’s canine unit, led by the sniffer dog Marco, signalled a sky‑blue trolley bag heading towards platform 8. Subsequent inspection, carried out under the watch of senior officials and independent witnesses, uncovered eleven packets of marijuana amounting to 22.64 kilograms. The bag's owner, 22‑year‑old Rabial, originally from Kuchbihar in West Bengal and presently residing in Delhi’s north‑west zone, was taken into custody. Alongside the narcotics, officers recovered a mobile phone and other personal belongings. The detainee failed to provide any licence or permit for the possession of the drugs, resulting in his arrest under the NDPS Act, 1985. The incident underscores the ongoing vigilance of Eastern Railway’s security apparatus against drug trafficking on key routes.
