Doctor abuse video sparks outrage; Shiv Sena member denies assault claims

A video of the Kalyan hospital brawl quickly went viral, igniting fury among medical professionals and the public. While health bodies called for strict punishment, corporator Ramesh Mhatre appeared on a television interview denying any physical aggression. He claimed he only slapped the female doctor’s mobile phone because she was not responding to his calls, arguing that his actions were meant to draw attention to the patient and a newborn’s wellbeing. Mhatre refused to apologise, insisting his conduct saved lives, and suggested that an apology from the doctors would be more appropriate.
