A severe political storm has erupted in Tamil Nadu following alleged death threats made by a DMK leader, Jaypalan, against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The controversial remarks, captured in a viral video, have drawn sharp condemnation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is demanding the immediate arrest of the DMK functionary. The incident occurred during a public protest in the Tenkasi district. Jaypalan, identified as the DMK South District Secretary, reportedly compared PM Modi to the demon ‘Narakasura,’ stating that the Prime Minister is ‘desperate to snatch your votes’ and that Tamil Nadu would benefit only by ‘eliminating him.’ He urged for a united fight to achieve victory. The Tamil Nadu BJP President, Nainar Nagendran, vehemently denounced the speech, highlighting the dangerous implications of such threats against a globally respected leader and questioning the state’s law and order. Nagendran also criticized local MPs and MLAs for their silence during the inflammatory speech, suggesting it revealed the party’s violent tendencies. The demand for Jaypalan’s arrest stems from concerns over the Prime Minister’s security. This controversy unfolds as PM Modi is slated for visits to Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, including inaugurating the Southern India Natural Farming Summit and releasing the PM Kisan scheme’s 21st installment in Coimbatore.
