DMK Lawmaker Granted Bail Hours After Arrest Over Provocative Speech

Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, senior DMK representative from Tiruchendur, secured bail late on Friday night, barely twelve hours after being taken into custody by Thootukudi police. The arrest occurred as she traveled toward Attur, roughly 23 kilometres from the police station.

The Madras High Court had earlier rejected her anticipatory bail petition. After a brief medical examination at Thootukudi Government Medical College Hospital, she was released on conditional bail. The case stems from a June 20 public speech in which she made disparaging comments about Chief Minister Vijay, leading to a complaint by the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and subsequent criminal charges.
