DMK’s Kanimozhi Engages Shiv Sena and NCP Over New Opposition Framework

Following the recent collapse of the constitutional amendment aimed at delimitation and expanding Lok Sabha seats, DMK parliamentary figure Kanimozhi launched a series of diplomatic overtures. In Mumbai, she visited the Matoshri residence in Bandra, where Uddhav Thackeray, leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), greeted her and gifted a gold‑embellished shawl.

The meeting, which also saw presence of Shiv Sena legislators Anil Desai and Milind Navarekar, delved into the implications of the failed delimitation bill, the Congress party’s current posture towards the BJP, and the strategic aspirations of the India Block alliance. Participants stressed the necessity of integrating regional and minor parties to forge a resilient opposition capable of confronting emerging political dynamics.

After the Maharashtra encounter, Kanimozhi traveled to the capital for one‑on‑one discussions with Sharad Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party and his daughter, MP Supriya Sule. These dialogues indicate a concerted effort by the DMK to rally parties whose viewpoints differ from Congress, fostering the conditions for a third national coalition that stands apart from both the BJP and the Congress.
