Diwali Outreach: Bihar Leader Visits Dalit Settlement, Promotes Subsidy Donation
Patna, November 8 – As Diwali lights illuminate the capital, Bihar’s chief minister Samrat Chaudhary announced a state‑wide drive to encourage voluntary surrender of the electricity subsidy, effective from December 1. The scheme seeks to redirect the subsidy from financially secure families to those still awaiting reliable power.
Chaudhary likened the initiative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for citizens to abandon unused gas connections. He assured that those who give up the electricity benefit will be acknowledged as donors, contributing to a larger social safety net.
The chief minister chose a Dalit neighborhood on Digha‑Ashiyana Road for his Diwali celebrations. He mingled with Dalit, Adivasi and other backward families, distributing gifts, lighting lamps together and extending heartfelt Diwali wishes to all residents.
He urged members of the legislative assembly, local councillors and bureaucrats across the state to follow his example, emphasizing that the festival must be a shared experience without exclusion.
Bihar presently supplies 125 units of free electricity to roughly 1.92 crore families, a program that took shape under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and former chief minister Nitish Kumar. Chaudhary also mentioned that several MoUs with prospective industrial partners will be signed during upcoming events, which he believes will inject fresh energy into the state’s investment pipeline.
