Divine Decorations and Panchamrit Abhishek Mark Mahakal’s Ash Ceremony

The holy city of Ujjain became a hub of devotion as the Mahakaleshwar Temple hosted an elaborate ash aarti on Bhadrapada Shukla Trayodashi. The sanctum was bathed in chants, bells and conch sounds, echoing the chant “Jai Shri Mahakal”.

A special water ablution was performed, after which the deity was anointed with Panchamrit – a sacred concoction of dairy and honey blends. The priest then offered Hariom water, performed a kapoor aarti, and placed an ornate crown on Baba Mahakal.

The deity’s appearance was striking: a regal Rajadhiraja form with a moon on his forehead, a triple‑tilak, a trishul, and a brilliant yellow sandalwood ornament resembling the sun. The ash aarti that followed was accompanied by rhythmic drums, cymbals and shankhs, allowing the assembled devotees to witness the divine transformation.
