Disturbing Case of Mob Violence Against Disabled Person in Palakkad
Authorities in Palakkad, Kerala, have arrested a group of seven individuals accused of a gruesome murder of a mentally ill man near the Molathara dam. The victim, who could not speak clearly due to his condition, was repeatedly seen sleeping outside the residence of suspect Kathiresan.
Police say the assailants, angry over the repeated trespass, chased the man for roughly 500 metres, pelted him with stones, and then surrounded him at the dam’s regulator where they struck him repeatedly with wooden sticks and rocks. Even after the victim collapsed, the mob continued the assault, allegedly forcing alcohol down his throat when he requested water.
Local residents discovered the body early Sunday, prompting an investigation that revealed the cause of death as internal bleeding from multiple blunt‑force injuries. The police have yet to establish the victim’s name and are extending their inquiry to Tamil Nadu while looking into whether additional participants were involved.
