District Officials Launch Emergency Rescue to Stop River Encroachment

The district administration of Barabanki has declared a state of emergency in Hetampur as the Ghaghara River threatens to overrun the village. Flood‑control officers, supported by the state disaster response force, are working in shifts to reinforce embankments and divert water away from critical zones.

Rescue teams are stationed at strategic points, using boats and temporary barriers to protect the Shri Baba Narayan Das temple and the adjacent mosque. The Sub‑Divisional Magistrate, Akanksha Gupta, inspected the site personally and coordinated with engineers to accelerate sand‑bagging operations.

Ten permanent houses have already been submerged, and the river continues to erode the riverbank despite the reduced water level. Officials have promised swift financial assistance to families whose homes have been damaged and have set up temporary shelters for displaced residents.

The emergency response is being described as a “war‑level” effort, with police, district officers, and volunteers collaborating to mitigate damage and restore a sense of security among the flood‑hit population.
