The amendment also expands the financial powers of District Development Officers for allocating "gamtaal" (village‑area) parcels. The ceiling for individual residential plots jumps from Rs 20,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Cooperative housing societies can now receive up to Rs 7.5 lakh, compared with the earlier Rs 1.5 lakh. Dairy cooperatives, cooperative warehouses and rural grid projects see their limits rise from Rs 20,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
These higher thresholds are expected to enable district officials to resolve a larger share of land‑related cases locally, where land records and site data are readily available, thereby cutting delays and simplifying approvals.
