Disproportionate Wealth Investigation Expands to Four Sites in Bihar

The vigilance agency’s operation that began with a sudden raid on Patna's Jal Bhavan has now broadened to encompass four more locations throughout Bihar. The initial sweep was triggered by a case involving Supervising Engineer Rajendra Kumar, who is accused of holding assets that exceed his legitimate income by more than 100 percent. Kumar, posted in the Chapra zone and also tasked with extra monitoring functions, is alleged to have bought about 75 plots of land in Panvel, Mumbai, valued at roughly 1.75 crore rupees. While investigators continue to comb through the Jal Bhavan premises, teams equipped with SUVs are simultaneously searching properties, land records and financial statements at four additional sites in the state. The ongoing search aims to uncover any undisclosed wealth linked to the engineer and to verify the authenticity of the claimed property acquisitions. Department personnel have expressed heightened anxiety as the investigation unfolds, awaiting the final report expected later this evening. The vigilance bureau emphasizes that it regularly conducts such raids on officials whose asset statements show significant disparity from their known earnings, as part of its broader anti‑corruption mandate.
