The bail granted to Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in the Delhi liquor policy scam has ignited fresh accusations of political horse-trading. Congress heavyweight Sandeep Dikshit minced no words, declaring that Kejriwal’s presence or absence from jail makes zero difference to the capital’s governance woes.
Speaking candidly, Dikshit highlighted the timing of the release as proof of BJP-AAP backroom deals. ‘We foresaw this; BJP is propping up Kejriwal to target Congress in key state polls,’ he explained. His morning statement had already anticipated the court’s decision, framing it as a tactical move ahead of elections in Punjab and Uttarakhand.
On the merits of the case, Dikshit expressed doubt without attacking the judiciary. ‘No one here is innocent in my book,’ he said. He probed the CBI’s efforts over two years, wondering aloud if the agency was instructed to falter, unlike in other high-profile investigations.
Dikshit also weighed in on Uday Bhanu Chib’s release on bail after protesting at the AI Summit. ‘Arresting protesters is the real shock; demonstrations have defined democracy for decades,’ he noted. Citing historical precedents like BJP’s own agitations against Manmohan Singh, he criticized the selective crackdown. ‘Standard practice is brief detention and release – not this overreach,’ Dikshit concluded, expecting judicial relief for the youth wing.
With alliances shifting, Dikshit’s critique signals escalating pre-election tensions, positioning Congress as the unwavering voice of accountability.
