Digital Forensics and AI Set to Transform Haryana’s Justice System
Haryana’s law‑enforcement ecosystem is undergoing a digital overhaul that positions the state as a national benchmark for modern criminal justice. With an implementation score of 95.21 out of 100 for the new Indian Penal Code, the Bharatiya Nagar Suraksha Samhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Act, the state’s police force is leveraging cutting‑edge forensic and artificial‑intelligence technologies.
Director General Ajay Singhal said that mobile forensic units now arrive at crime scenes within minutes, capturing DNA, fingerprints and digital footprints that are instantly uploaded to a secure cloud platform via a specialised mobile application. This swift evidence preservation has strengthened prosecutorial outcomes and accelerated case timelines.
The e‑evidence system, electronic summons, digital case‑management suite and high‑definition video‑conferencing have collectively reduced procedural delays. Courts can now hear witness testimony through secure video links, eliminating the need for physical travel and ensuring the safety of vulnerable witnesses.
An internal audit highlighted that the shift to paper‑less processes and virtual hearings has saved the state over ₹26 crore in six months, cutting costs on stationery, fuel and logistical support. The savings are being redirected to further technology upgrades and community policing initiatives.
Looking forward, the DGP outlined a roadmap where artificial‑intelligence will automatically scan CCTV footage for suspicious activity, match fingerprints against national databases, transcribe statements in real time and monitor the progress of each case through predictive analytics. Such AI‑driven capabilities are expected to make investigations faster, more accurate and fully accountable to the public.
Singhal concluded by emphasizing that sustained collaboration among police, prosecutors, forensic experts, the judiciary and citizens will be essential to maintain the momentum and deliver swift, evidence‑based justice across Haryana.
