Dhingra’s Legacy Celebrated Across States on September 18

September 18 saw a nationwide commemoration of Madan Lal Dhingra, the revolutionary who gave his life for India’s freedom.

Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with chief ministers from Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, posted tributes on social platforms, each highlighting Dhingra’s “unmatched bravery” and “selfless dedication.”

Union Minister Pankaj Chaudhary, also serving as the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh president, described Dhingra’s actions as a “defining moment of resistance against British tyranny.”

Born on this day in 1883, Dhingra’s most notable act was the assassination of Sir William Hutt Curzon‑Wylie in London, an event that led to a high‑profile trial at the Old Bailey. He chose to represent himself, rejected the court’s authority, and was executed at Pentonville Prison on August 17, 1909.

The collective homage reinforced the message that Dhingra’s sacrifice continues to inspire a sense of duty, patriotism, and national pride among Indians today.
