Dhami outlines rail, road and ropeway priorities for Uttarakhand infrastructure

In a briefing convened at the state guest house, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami outlined the three pillars of Uttarakhand’s infrastructure strategy: rail connectivity, road development and ropeway projects.

Road works have largely been completed, with the Delhi‑Dehradun Economic Corridor Expressway now fully operational and the new all‑weather Char Dham routes opened for year‑round travel. These projects have dramatically cut travel time between major tourist and pilgrimage centres and are expected to boost the state’s economy.

The CM placed particular emphasis on accelerating ropeway initiatives. He directed officials to fast‑track 50 pending ropeway proposals under the Mountain Range Project, prioritising those that have already received theoretical approval. Specific corridors such as Sonprayag‑Kedarnath, Tankpur‑Poonagiri, Kathgodam‑Nainital, Govindghat‑Hemkund Sahib, Kanakchowri‑Kartik Swami, Dehradun‑Mussoorie and Janakichatti were reviewed for progress.

Officials were instructed to integrate ample parking facilities into each ropeway design, simplify licensing procedures, and attract private investment through transparent PPP models. The chief minister also sought updates on proposed ropeways in the Haridwar‑Rishikesh region and urged the Uttarakhand Ropeway Development Ltd to fast‑track ground‑breaking activities for future projects.
